Christmas Cheer in the Air flight
More than 150 young Cantabrians experienced
some early Christmas cheer yesterday with
a special festive flight operated by Air New
Zealand.
The airline turned one of its Boeing 777-200ER
aircraft into a unique Christmas “sleigh” for the
children of Christchurch, gifting them a special
scenic flight down to the Aoraki Mt Cook area
and back.
Face-painted children mingled with elves and
fairies before making their way up the tinseldecorated
stairs to the aircraft for the special
one-hour excursion. For many it was their first
experience of flying, and they got to enjoy it
with their parent or guardian by their side.
Surprises on board included the 31-strong
Christchurch City Chorus singing carols
throughout the flight and an unexpected drop-in
from Santa and six little helpers who distributed
sack-loads of sweets and other goodies.
Air New Zealand Chief Pilot Captain David
Morgan piloted the flight, and those travelling
had the rare opportunity to accompany him on
his pre-flight walk around the aircraft.
Air New Zealand worked with several media
partners including The Press, Classic Hits and
Newstalk ZB Christchurch to help gift the seats
to Canterbury families. More than 1000 entries
were received for the flight.
Air New Zealand also filled the Business
Premier cabin at the front of the aircraft with
children selected by Koru Care. They particularly
enjoyed trying out the lie-flat beds.
A number of Air New Zealand’s business
partners jumped in to support the flight -Energy
supplier Z provided the fuel while Christchurch
International Airport waived the landing fees.

Rainbow Springs has completed construction of its new 384-seat free flight bird show auditorium and the birds are progressing well in their training.

2013 Winter Games NZ will be second only to Olympics
Winter Games NZ has announced its plans for the 2013 event, which will run 12-25AUG13. The Games will increase its standing on the international winter sports circuit with the inclusion of six World Cup events. Global governing body FIS actively approached WGNZ to host the events as a lead up event to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, being staged just six months later. It is therefore expected to attract the majority of the world’s top elite athletes to New Zealand.

The Boathouse Nelson - post flood update
Hello Everyone .....................A quick mid-December post-flood Boathouse update. Thank you for all your concern and the good news is that Wakefield Quay is open again and The Boathouse was untouched by mud or water. With the current closure of Rocks Road it is fantastically quiet here (of people and cars !) and this is a unique time to sit on the deck and listen to the birds on the Boulder Bank.
