Finding Picton and the ferry
At last, self-drive travellers to Marlborough can now follow a series of clear new road signs guiding them to and from ferry check-in and departure points, Picton’s town centre and the redeveloped waterfront and town wharf. A full redesign of the signage in and out of Picton was undertaken by a working group of community and business representatives resulting in 16 new signs to simplify and streamline directions to assist visitors to find their way around.

Cardrona adds platter town for boarders
Cardrona Alpine Resort has further cemented its position as one of the world’s best ski and snowboard training facilities thanks to the addition of a surface lift to access its Olympic and International halfpipes. A busy summer of developments at the ski area has included the relocation of a platter tow (a motorised system for pulling skiers and snowboarders uphill) to service the halfpipes. “It’s going to mean super fast laps and no more hiking for these guys, as well as reducing queues on McDougall and the Whitestar chairlifts,” says Cardrona sales and marketing manager Nadia Ellis.

Improvements to Canterbury’s Mt Hutt during summer have included the addition of its first automated snowmaking line. This has involved adding 16 guns on the International
trail, which finishes at the bottom of the Towers Triple Chair. The work means the ski area can, for the first time, make snow on all its main trails in the build up to and throughout the season.
Air New Zealand Aviation Institue launched
Air New Zealand has launched a specialist Aviation Institute which will provide a comprehensive range of training covering most airline industry roles within a single organisation. The Institute is a one stop shop not just for pilot training, but also for other airline roles such as engineers, flight attendants and front line check-in staff.
